Inadvertently recorded in bold mono in 2002, what “American Trip” lacked in stereo it made up for in fidelity to the history, hilarity and heartbreak of the American experience. Now comes a hi-fi stereofied “American Trip ReDux” in 2024, separated and rearranged on its sonic palette by producer-engineer Chris Purdum, who joined the band in 2003 and has been with it ever since. He retroactively joins the 2002 lineup of Jim Braly (guitar, vocals), Ken Long (guitar, vocals) and Bill Mishler (drums, vocals) by substituting bass guitar for the original keyboard bass and by adding his vocal harmony along with instrumental touches. From 1691's “Glade Runner” to 1963's “Camelot Lost” through 1984's “Rock 'n' Roll Flow” to 2001's “Impossibly Blue,” this is a trip worth repeating.
